Yara El Safi: Sajjada

sajjada - Edited

This week I continued with my proposal from two weeks ago. In this piece I continued with the language I am developing with the forms, colours and shapes, but I took a specific direction in this one and worked from the format of a Sajjada (islamic prayer mat). The aqua blue border references to the border on the prayer mat which is meant to act  as an entrance to the pilgrims prayers around the Kaba. While praying  your view is downward looking at the Kaba on the mat and envisioning your prayers being set around the Kaba.

With that, I made this pieces the length and width of a islamic prayer mat and centralized the business and movement of the piece, and then overlapped shaped over the border to bring the viewers in and out of the center.
